My name is Mel, and I have been providing practical and emotional support to expectant and new parents since 2000. A person who does this work is known as a doula (doo-lah).
I have a specific interest in protecting and nurturing mental and emotional health, and wellbeing, in pregnancy, birth and beyond - we know that 1 in 3 people experience an aspect of becoming parents as traumatic (2019) and that “43% of the women met the criteria for clinically relevant depression and 61% met the criteria for anxiety” since the pandemic (2021). This is NOT ok!
I am feeling called to train others to do this incredibly important work, and would love to know if this is a service that you would like to see available in our community.
